The law of reciprocity means to give and take mutually, to return in kind or degree. This means that when someone gives something
you fell an obligation to give back.
I enjoy reading Stephen Covey. He is the author of "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People". He uses a term in his book called
"an emotional bank account" to describe the principal of reciprocity. He states that just like your own bank account you must make
deposits before you can make a withdrawal.
Knowing this principal ma…

Good morning!
Today I am going to give you a great tool for dealing with negative emotions and feelings. I would like to share a “fluffy” experience that has lightened life’s load for me when I feel down and out. I hope it can add a touch of lightness for yours.
At midlife I spent a summer in the Grand Tetons in Wyoming. Besides much self-discovery, I also gained many wonderful tools for living life during my summer there. One of my favorite activities to do was to take walks and horseback rid…

With the economy and market the way it is, it’s no wonder many of us have forgotten about the JOY and PASSION in what we do. Change is always a difficult process, especially when we are forced to. Change requires us to challenge our thought process, alter our habits and embrace that which may be uncomfortable and unpleasant.
Life is short and time is fleeing. Can you really afford to jeopardize your health AND the success of your business by refusing, denying or avoiding the personal and profes…

Good morning to one and all,
Today I am going to share an excerpt from my book, JUST TREAT ME LIKE I MATTER: THE HEART OF SALES. It is a favorite of mine because it is a great lesson that my father taught me, just three years ago. Now that he is going on 90, he still practices this gift for connection everywhere that he goes.
“Be exceptional at what you do. Make yourself stand out in the crowd – be unique from the rest of the pack. Develop your own character and style. Selling and closing is t…

Whether you are plotting your course to grow your business regionally, nationally or globally fundamental business practices are the same. Far too many business owners come up with an idea or concept, order business cards and put the “open” sign in the window. What’s wrong with this picture? Where’s the planning? There is another group of small business owners. They take the time to create a plan, but like New Year’s resolutions, they start fast and finish slow. Within 90 days, they are in autopilot, haven’t looked at the plan and constantly putting out fires.
Can you imagine corporations like Apple, Nordstroms and Southwest funct…

I am Diane Marie Pinkard and I am a new member to Cold Closers University, thanks to Edward William’s invitation. Exactly how many ways can you market the same product or service? Competition for clients and resources is fierce. Small business owners need an edge to not only survive; but stake out their share of the market.
Whether you are just starting out or run an established business, your needs are the same: increase traffic and close more sales. It is the same whether the economy is good or bad. You are either generating revenue or your not. Make sure your focus is not on the economy, but on what you…

Greetings and Welcome Cold Closing Network Members and Friends!
It has been a while since I chimed in with any thoughts so I took the occasion to vent about the call I just received from a fellow cold caller. Now, I am not usually accustomed to critique (unless I am asked for my two billion cents) but I could not pass this one up. Imagine, The Cold Closer, getting a cold call... and a very poor one at that. So let'er rip...
This was the intro, "Hi". (not bad, but dont most people respond in ki…

Just because someone needs your products or services, doesn’t mean they will automatically enlist your help. Many business owners falsely assume that a great product or service will mean instant sales. Seasoned small business owners will recognize the absurdity in this. People need to relate to you before they buy from you. There is a mental process that takes place in which they need assurances.
Active listening – Listen to what they are telling you. Be sure you understand what their needs are…

Some mistakes can be corrected, but not the mistake of wasted time. When time goes it has gone forever.”-- Napoleon Hill.
There are so many products on the market that were created to simply make our lives a little easier. Time savers, organizers, reminders, information management, client management, the list goes on. These tools could prove to be invaluable to us “do-it-yourselfers” i.e. solopreneurs.
What tools are you using to streamline and simplify the way you do business? Are those tools…

You can’t be everything to everybody. But you can set yourself apart and really create a name for your business and yourself. If you don’t develop your brand identity one will be created for you and you may not like the latter. Savvy small business owners will try to define what their target audience should think about their company. Your brand is what gets your target market talking about you. It is how potential clients and your client base perceive your business; they determine your brand.

There is one vital characteristic that delivers dramatically higher results …in anything. That characteristic is personal accountability. We must always be responsible and accountable to ourselves regardless of our background, position or occupation.
In fact, personal accountability is even more important as small business owners. Just because we do not have a boss to answer to, does not mean that we should sacrifice our efforts and accountability for excuses and complacency. It is called consc…
